NFL legend Ed Reed agreed to take the position as head coach for the Bethune-Cookman football program back in December.
But on Saturday, Reid issued an official statement announcing his decision to step down.
The all-time great safety cited failed contract negotiations as the reason for pulling out.
“After weeks of negotiations I have been informed that the University will not ratify my contract and will not make good on our agreement in principle, which had the necessary provisions and resources to support student athletes.
“I was committed to coaching and building relationships with the university, players, community and fans. It is extremely disappointing that this will not happen.”

Reid publicly criticized Bethune-Cookman’s athletic facilities shortly after agreeing to take the job. He also raised the issue of not cleaning his office before starting work.
The partnership was built on a rocky foundation, and ultimately lasted less than a month.
