The Dallas Cowboys will not be firing head coach Mike McCarthy on Sunday.
Jerry Jones announced after his team’s 19–12 loss to the 49ers that McCarthy would return as head coach.
McCarthy has led the Cowboys to 12 consecutive winning seasons, although they have also lost in the playoffs in back-to-back years, each time in San Francisco.
Jory Epstein tweeted on Sunday evening, “Jerry Jones says Mike McCarthy is safe as head coach of the Cowboys. Also agrees with Brett Maher’s decision, with FGS “exonerated”.
The Cowboys have been mentioned to former Saints head coach Sean Payton, although it does not appear that Jones is interested in a head coach change.
McCarthy will return as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 2023.
