Nebraska’s recruiting has been less than stellar in recent years under Scott Frost. But Matt Raul might have managed to land a rare former five-star former prospect for his first year at the helm.
According to on3 sports, former Georgia tight end Eric Gilbert committed to the Huskers. Gilbert, who 247sports 5 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting class, appeared in only three games for Georgia last year and entered the transfer portal after recording only two receptions all season.
Gilbert began his college career at LSU and had 35 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman. He transferred to Georgia the following year, did not play in 2021 and saw action in only three games in 2022.
He now gets his chance to play at Nebraska, where he will be penciled in as the starter when training begins. Whether or not he is able to emerge as a potential first-round pick remains to be seen at times.
Nebraska begins the 2023 season with a lot of questions everywhere on the roster. The cupboard isn’t empty, actually, but they don’t have a ton of players that inspire confidence they’ll win the Big Ten West in Matt Roday’s first year.
The Huskers have four star prospects for the Class of 2023.
Will Eric Gilbert be an impact player for Nebraska this season?
