Down by seven points, in their own territory, Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy opted to send the punt team out late in the fourth quarter.
NFL fans are understandably shocked.
The Cowboys give the ball back to the 49ers, who advance by a touchdown, although they have three timeouts remaining in the contest.
McCarthy is typically very aggressive, although he played it conservative on that drive.
“If Dallas loses then game management is going to rear its ugly head again. Aggressive game planning, late game management and wasting time before the decision to punt. Will McCarthy be safe from defeat? Perhaps. But The manner of the loss matters”, wrote a fan.
“Mike McCarthy is the biggest boozo ever. My God. Seasons on the line and you’re two minutes left. Sick,” said one fan.
Another fan wrote, “Mike McCarthy’s culture doesn’t even consider that you might not get a first down or that it benefits you to get out of there immediately after your punt team is stopped.”
The Cowboys were trailing the 49ers, 19-12, in the fourth quarter on Sunday evening.
Will Mike McCarthy survive if his team is unable to stage a comeback?
