The Sean Payton Coaching Tour continues this weekend.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, Payton is set to meet with Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper in New York on Friday. This will be his first interview for the vacant post of head-coaching of the team.
This would come just three days after meeting the Denver Broncos.
Payton continues to get interviews because there is a good chance he will return to coaching next season. He decided to close this season after stepping down as head coach of the New Orleans Saints after the 2021 season ends.
The NFL community wasted no time reacting to this latest update on the free-agent coach.
“This would be the best outcome IMO (in my opinion),” read another tweet.
Any team that wants to hire Payton would have to negotiate a trade with the New Orleans Saints as he is still under contract. A deal would likely include at least one first-rounder because the Saints don’t have one right now.
We’ll have to see how his interview with the Panthers goes.
