While Brittany Griner is safe at home in the United States, another fellow American lives in some form or another abroad.
Zach Shaheen, an American who has been jailed in Dubai for 15 years, is making headlines this weekend after his family is angered by the decision to bring Griner home but leave him in prison abroad.
Jack’s son, Remy Shaheen, said, “I feel like the UAE helped broker the deal for Griner’s release, which was a slap in the face to me and my family.” “And they gave my father’s case… didn’t give even an iota of respect.”
“She is an American citizen who has been turned away by the Biden administration as well as the State Department,” he said. “Nobody responded to our pleas for help, and then seeing Brittany Griner get all the attention… maybe we’re not famous enough. We’re just an ordinary American family, and they completely ignored us.
The Biden administration opted to trade arms dealer Victor Bout for Griner in order to bring home the WNBA star. While it is good to have Griner back, it is understandable for the families of other foreign prisoners to be upset.
“Zack Shaheen is dying, they took Brittany Griner from Russia and didn’t care, she was in there a long time. Where is Griner and his girlfriend, they said they will do their best to get her out. They need her Got what they want and Screw Jack, he was wrongfully detained. Now get out,” wrote a fan.
“I have great sympathy for Shaheen and his family and hope he can return to the US soon, but it’s ridiculous to compare this case to Griner’s. And to blame Biden when he was first imprisoned under Bush Shows the only motivation of this piece is political. Fox doesn’t care about that,” said one fan.
One fan said, “As Biden and the UAE work for Griner’s release before Christmas, Shaheen languishes in a Dubai dungeon for 15 years” … the lowest level of political maneuvering.

Of course, it is not Griner’s fault that he was brought home by the US government while others were not.
Hopefully, the US government will be able to bring more home.
