Maya Moore hasn’t touched a WNBA floor in the four years since leaving the game of basketball in pursuit of criminal justice reform, but she’s never officially retired.
On Monday, the Minnesota Lynx star officially closed the door on what appears to be a Hall of Fame career.
appearing on”good Morning America,” Moore announced his decision to call it quits here:
Well, I guess it’s time to move on to the pro basketball life. I left four seasons ago, but wanted to officially retire. This is such a lovely time for us and our family. The work we have done I want to continue this in my next chapter. Be home to my community and family. … That’s what I’m moving into. To hang it
The sports world reacted on social media to the retirement of the four-time champion.
“Thank you Maya Moore for your contributions to the game of basketball,” the WNBA tweeted.
WSLAM said, “Maya Muri was and always will be.”
“Please do not do [ever] forget how good Maya Moore was at basketball,” another user shared.
Six All-Star selections, four WNBA championships, three All-Star MVP awards and a 2014 league MVP, the achievements go on and on.
Hats off to Maya for an incredible basketball life both on and off the court.
